○ New European Bauhaus on the Danube
Launch ↗- Description
- The New European Bauhaus on the Danube (NEBoD) is a cross-border research initiative exploring the cultural and spatial diversity of the Danube region. As part of its foundation phase, I was commissioned to design and develop its first digital presence — a platform that introduces the network, its people, and its projects, while also establishing a visual identity that balances academic credibility with creative dynamism. Central to the concept is an interactive map that transforms the Danube into both a navigational tool and symbolic framework. Users can explore projects and research activities embedded in specific geographic contexts, creating a spatial narrative that reflects the region’s fluid, hybrid character.

○ Render Studio
Launch ↗- Description
- Blickfang is Europe’s largest design shopping event and an international platform showcasing well-crafted products from independent designers. As part of their content marketing strategy, Blickfang provides vendors with branded video materials for social media promotion. To streamline the production of over 140 videos per exhibition, a custom tool was developed to enable employees to render videos on demand. Motion design was initially done in After Effects and then converted into special Lottie files, which are then used by Render Studio.

○ Museum of Mistakes (MA Thesis)
- Description
- The Museum of Mistakes is a virtual exhibition and platform dedicated to rethinking our relationship with failure in the context of design and creativity. Rather than viewing mistakes as costly setbacks, this project explores their potential as vital learning moments and sources of “negative knowledge.” Through interviews, experiments, and research, we examined how error tolerance shapes innovation and how fear of failure often limits creative freedom. The digital experience invites designers to confront and share their own failures, fostering a dialogue that challenges the stigma of mistakes and promotes a more nuanced, constructive view of imperfection in the creative process.

○ saba
- Description
- Brand identity for saba, a digital platform offering psychosocial support to individuals with refugee or migration backgrounds. Developed for humanitarian organization IPSO, the app is an interface to speak face-to-face to certified counselors and overcome trauma. A key element of the identity is the audiovisual logo, which includes a calming soundscape designed to reduce anxiety. This subtle, ambient audio is used in the app’s virtual waiting room before video sessions, setting a tone of reassurance and emotional grounding.

● Information
Niklas Sonnenschein is a designer who likes to code (or a developer with a passion for design, depending on the day.) Currently working remotely for webhub, and teaming up with select clients on freelance projects.
I believe that thoughtful design, whether visual or software-based, begins with understanding – and that the smallest details often have the biggest impact. I’m particularly drawn to simplifying complex processes and finding smart, digital ways to improve them.
My approach is user-centered, visually clear, and always tailored to the unique needs of each project. My focus areas include interactive and time-based media, as well as typography – because good type is never optional.
In short: I care about how things work, how they look, and how they feel – and I love bringing all three together.
